Ten important questions to ask your agent

When an agent represents a buyer they are usually paid by the seller. So basically you're getting representation for you and your family at the expense of the seller. Many agents aren't very experienced or familiar with specific area. It's a great resource for you to have an experienced agent on your side but how do you know their experience level? Ask lot's of questions and find out if they have a team and if they are negotiation experts:

  1. What motivates you to assist buyers with their home search and purchase?
  2. What should make me want to trust and work with you?
  3. There are lots of licensed agents, what do you do better?
  4. Do you have a team of industry professionals to support and assist you?
  5. What will you and your team do to help me effectively locate a great house for me and my family?
  6. Tell my what are the most common challenges or things that can go wrong and how do you handle them?
  7. How will you help me get my offer accepted in a competitive market and were there are perhaps multiple offers?
  8. What are some mistakes that you think people make when buying their first home?
  9. What other professionals do you suggest we work with and what are their credentials?
  10. Will you provide me with references or testimonials from past clients?

Just like a pilot gets the glory for bringing you safely through your travels, it's actually a whole team behind them. That's how I run my business also.
